Inspiring Tomorrow's Singers

About The Choir

The Rodolfus Choir

Outstanding by any standards… Sheer pleasure.
— BBC Music Magazine

The Rodolfus Choir is a leading UK youth choir for talented young singers aged 16-23. Our aim is to offer professional, high quality choral singing opportunities and to share the wonderful choral repertoire with diverse audiences across the UK and beyond.

The choir draws from a pool of over 100 auditioned singers for a range of projects each season, including concerts, choral evensongs, recordings, broadcasts and workshops. It has a particular reputation for its high standards of music-making and sight-singing, and for its exciting repertoire choices.

Auditions

We hold auditions to join The Rodolfus Choir annually, with our next auditions will take place from 28 August to 30 August 2025. Please click here for further details.

You will need to prepare a solo unaccompanied piece for your audition. You should select a piece that shows off your voice to best advantage, and which you love to sing! During the audition you will be asked to undertake a short piece of sight-singing. Advice on how to improve your sight-reading can be found here.

Membership

If you are offered a place in the choir, you will be asked to pay a annual subscription fee of £120 (financial assistance is available). You will then be able to access to a number of exciting choir events, workshops and opportunities offered throughout the year for no additional charge.

Concerts

A key highlight in our annual calendar is the five day choir project held between Christmas and New Year when the Choir performs one or two concerts of festive choral repertoire. Traditionally, this project involves a sold-out New Year’s Eve concert at Douai Abbey every other year. Visit our Events page to see what is coming up. The choir has also performed at the BBC Proms, as well as at the Three Choirs Festival in both Gloucester and Worcester Cathedrals, the Thaxted Festival, and the Barnes Music Festival.

Choral Evensongs

The choir regularly sings evensong at major churches and cathedrals, including an annual visit to St John’s College, Cambridge. During the Easter holidays, the choir schedules an evensong at a major London church or cathedral such as Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral.  The choir aims to schedule at least one BBC Radio 3 broadcast evensong each year.

Recordings

The Choir has been making acclaimed choral recordings since 1992, and you can find further details on our dedicated Recordings page.

The Choir always loves a day in the studio and have provided backing vocals for Katherine Jenkins (Music from the Movies; Sacred Arias; and Guiding Light) and Alexander Armstrong (Hymn Song).

Advertising recordings includes a jingle for Scala Radio (now Magic Classical) and the Go Compare adverts for Yellow Boat Music. For Cinema & TV: Urban Hymn (2015); Magical Adventure (score by David Arnold); various soundtracks for EMI.

Professional Chorus

The Rodolfus Choir is regularly asked to provide extra singers for large choral works performed by major orchestras. The choir has appeared singing Beethoven’s 9th with the Philharmonia and Brahms’ Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, and Busoni’s Piano Concerto at the BBC Proms. They have also sung with the English String Orchestra and the Hanover Band.
