Founded in 1863, St. Edward's School, known as 'Teddies’, is a co-educational independent school located in the city of Oxford. The school has a proud tradition of excellence in academics, music, and the arts. Located two miles north of Oxford city centre on Woodstock Road, OX2 7NN, the campus is easily accessible by bus, car and train.

You must be between the ages of 15 and 22 to apply for this course. If you are 15, you must currently be in Year 11. If you are in year 10, please take a look at our Choral Course in York or at the Junior Choral Courses.

The cost of this course is £1125. There are a number of payment options available:
£250 deposit followed by an invoice to pay the remaining balance via a bank transfer by 31st March 2025
£250 deposit followed by two invoices - one to pay 50% of the remaining balance by 31st March 2025 and the other to pay the remainder by 27th June 2025.
The full £1125 on application using a credit card (plus a 1.5% Stripe transaction fee)
A monthly payment plan to be completed 6 weeks before the start of the course (27th June 2025) following a deposit of £250 on application. (monthly payments will be subject to a 1.5% Stripe processing fee)

The refund policy is the same whichever payment option you choose. A full refund is available if you cancel the place by 5pm on 27th June 2025. 50% refund is available if cancelled after 5pm on 27th June and before 5pm on 18th July 2025. No refund is available if you cancel after 5pm on 18th July 2025. (Stripe processing fees are not refundable.)

SINGING TEACHER An Alumna of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and National Opera Studio, Anita Morrison's performing career spanned opera, oratorio and lieder. She is particularly known for her teaching of trebles and taught the choristers of Westminster Cathedral for nearly 30 years (from 1990-2019). She was awarded an Honorary ARSCM in 2017 in recognition of her outstanding work in this area following the publication of her vocal health for choristers book ‘The Chorister and the Racing Car – A Guide to High Performance Singing’. She currently teaches the choristers at St. George’s Windsor Castle, St. John’s College Cambridge, London Oratory Schola Cantorum and Cardinal Vaughan Schola Cantorum. She also teaches the choral scholars of Selwyn College Cambridge, is a vocal coach to The London Symphony Chorus and has a busy private teaching practice. An intrinsic belief in the importance of good body use led Anita to train as a Feldenkrais Practitioner. She has given Feldenkrais workshops for singers at the GSMD, Leeds College of Music and for Voice Workshop, Association af Teachers of Singing and the British Voice Association.

SINGING TEACHER Rebecca Outram currently teaches the choristers at Westminster Abbey and Magdalen College, Oxford, as well as at Eton College. In the past, Rebecca has also taught undergraduates at University and Keble Colleges, Oxford, and has coached members of the London Symphony Chorus. She is also an ABRSM examiner. Rebecca has extensive experience as a singer and has worked with renowned groups such as The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars, The English Concert, and The Gabrieli Consort. She has also performed as a soloist in prestigious venues including The Bridgewater Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, and St Paul's Cathedral. In addition to her musical career, Rebecca enjoys playing the piano and is working on returning to organ playing. She also loves cooking, knitting, crochet, watching rubbish TV, and spending time with her cat.

SINGING TEACHER Giles Underwood has a varied career as a bass-baritone, voice teacher, vocal coach and conductor. He is Professor of Singing at The Royal Academy of Music, having previously held a professorship at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD). He studied Biology at Oxford before going on to postgraduate and opera studies at GSMD under Professor Susan McCulloch. He runs a successful teaching practice in Oxford and since 2013, has been Director of Music at University College, Oxford. Giles has experience singing in opera, oratorio and on the recital platform, as well as performing with many of the UK’s leading vocal ensembles. He has taught singing on Rodolfus courses since 1999.

PRINCIPAL ACCOMPANIST Donál McCann is the Organist and Head of Chapel Music at Winchester College, where he trains and directs the renowned chapel choir and the Quiristers. He is involved in all aspects of musical life at Winchester College, and leads the college’s choral partnerships programme. Born in Belfast, he read music and was an organ scholar at King's College, Cambridge, graduating with a double first. Dónal is in demand as an organ recitalist, giving recitals in the UK and abroad. During his tenure as Assistant Organist at New College, Oxford he released his debut solo album to critical acclaim, featuring works by Bach and Walther. He is also an award-winning composer; his music recently being performed by the BBC Singers on BBC Radio 3.

COURSE ASSISTANT Eleanor Medcalf is currently studying for her Masters in harp performance at the Guildhall School of Music. She gained her BA in Classics at Queens’ College, Cambridge, where she was a Choral Scholar and sang in St John’s Voices. As a harpist, she has played with choirs and orchestras in major venues across the UK and gives duo recitals with British soprano Susan Gritton. She has also conducted choral works and operettas, and is an experienced repetiteur and accompanist on the piano. She fell in love with choral singing on her first Rodolfus course in 2017.

COURSE ASSISTANT Marcello Palazzo is a versatile musician, praised by Julian Anderson as ‘one of the brightest young talents on the musical scene.’ He has been commissioned by the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, Castalian Quartet, and Sir Thomas Allen. A former Britten Pears Young Artist, he has composed pieces for the Aldeburgh Festival, working with Lumas Winds and Jonathan Berman. The first draft of Marcello’s opera, Mount Herzog, was the best-seller of the 2024 Tête-À-Tête Opera Festival. A passionate conductor of new music, Marcello premiered Elisabeth Lutyens lost Five-Part Fantasia for Strings. As a dedicated teacher, Marcello teaches on the Rodolfus Choral Courses and SAM Composition School. He is also a former tenor lay clerk. Marcello studied at Durham University (BA, 1st Class Honours), the University of Oxford (MPhil Composition, Distinction), and with Julian Anderson, Christian Mason and Bent Sørensen. He has been supported by The Munster Trust and Mazzini-Garibaldi Foundation. Marcello is currently part of the London Symphony Orchestra's Helen Hamlyn Panufnik Composers' Scheme and is writing a piece for the LSO and Jack Sheen.

COURSE ASSISTANT British/Australian pianist Krystal Tunnicliffe enjoys a varied career as a collaborative pianist and music educator. She has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Oxford Song Festival, LIFE Victoria Festival (Barcelona), International Lied Festival (Zeist), Aldeburgh Festival, Ryedale Festival, Ludlow English Song Weekend, on BBC Radio 3 ‘In Tune’. and her debut disc, ‘The Complete Songs of William Walton’, with Delphian Records, was released in October 2024 to critical acclaim. She is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she now works as a staff pianist in the Junior department.

COURSE MANAGER Robert Scamardella is the Director of Music at Bede's School and has extensive experience directing ensembles, both choral and orchestral. He is an established pianist, organist, and conductor, and enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues across many different disciplines.

HOUSE PARENT Sarah Mattinson is currently Head of Academic Music at Hampton School, having previously taught at St Edward’s in Oxford. She has loved working on Rodolfus courses in the past and is excited to get stuck in again with some exciting choral music!

HOUSE PARENT Jack Thompson MA MMus PGCE FRSA enjoys a varied career as a conductor, organist and teacher of music. He combines his roles as Director of Chapel Music at Wellington College and Director of Music at St Mary's Church, Chelsea with regular guest appearances alongside choirs and ensembles from across the UK.

JUNIOR COURSE ASSISTANT Rosamund Elias Turner reads history at Cambridge, where she sings with the Trinity College Choir and has singing lessons with Ann de Renais. Before university, Rosamund studied the violin, piano and voice at Trinity Laban Junior Conservatoire, where she received a distinction in her singing diploma in 2022, and was a chorister at Southwark Cathedral under Stephen Disley and Ian Keatley. Rosamund sings with and deputises in several groups and churches in Cambridge, London and beyond. Recently, Rosamund sang as the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah at Holy Trinity Sloane Square. She plans to continue singing through university and beyond.

ARRIVAL TIMES
The arrival time on day 1 is different from that of any previous Choral Course. Singers must now arrive between 11:00am and 11:30am on the first day. The course will conclude on the final day between 5:00pm and 6:00pm.

As part of your application, we kindly ask for a brief reference from a singing or music teacher. This reference does not affect your acceptance onto the course. Instead, it helps our directors and singing teachers better understand your musical journey so far. Please note, references are only accepted through our online portal. The link to the online portal will be emailed to you once you have registered.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
We welcome applications from singers outside of the UK. However, please note that course fees will include an approximate 3.25% card processing fee.
