“Music education is not as accessible as it could be for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. This bursary is a means of providing access to people like me. Helping young musicians to develop and expand their knowledge from professionals, sing in a range of different venues, sing services such as evensong and compline which may be unfamiliar to some and make both professional links and lifelong friendships. ”
Every year we offer financial support to as many singers as possible to attend a Junior or Senior Choral Course. The average bursary amounts to approximately 50% of the fees, or around £500. Having just completed our 2023 courses we are now beginning to fundraise for our 2024 Bursary Fund for which our target is £50,000.
Bursaries are means-tested and open to anyone. We also work with a number of partner schools and community choirs, helping their young singers to access our bursary fund. Our courses can have a profound effect on a young person who would otherwise not have considered such an intense, fulfilling week of music making was possible.
The courses can make a tremendous difference to how young people see themselves:
